Weekly Blog #18

This week has been a highly eventful week in regards to my Independent Study and Mentorship journey. This week I have established a solid foundation for the development of my final product. For my original work last semester, I truly focused on analyzing the specific case study of Venezuela and establishing a uniquely tailored constitution with ten amendments focused solely on protecting the human rights of the people. However, for my final product, I desired to branch out and focus more on the aspect of spreading awareness for human rights violations around the globe. In addition, I felt a need to inform the people who are suffering from these violations of the rights they are entitled to.

My final product is going to be an informative law documentary that vividly depicts the devastating human rights abuses around the globe, while providing an in depth explanation of the rights each person is entitled to; More specifically those who are suffering under a threatening dictatorship, a violent communist regime, or even those escaping a widespread genocide. Through my case study research this year, it has become evident that while it is important to manage the threat of the imposing government, it is also essential to inform the public of the rights they are entitled to as citizens, and as humans.

I am hoping to create a product that both informs people of their human rights, while also spreading awareness about these drastic violations, that may have otherwise remained in the dark. I have chosen to express this “break-down” of the law and human rights violations in a documentary, so that it can be globally accessed on a public platform. My goal is to spread awareness for human rights violations, while offering those subject to government infringement, a thorough, yet comprehensible break down of the laws regarding their inherent rights as humans and as citizens.
