This week, I have been able to apply my foundational knowledge over human rights law, which I have attained through my research and assessments, to my informational interviews and my brainstorming for my original work proposal. I was also able to broaden my perception of international law, by encompassing immigration law from my interview with Mr. Paul S. Zoltan.
Even though Mr. Zoltan is an immigration lawyer, I learned that immigration law and international human rights law overlap in many aspects. After my interview, I learned that in human rights and immigration law, what is legal and what is right most often collide because it is the regulation of the other. I also realized from his past experiences, that when I pursue my own career, I should check primary sources more often, and not only rely on treatises, because this way I can fine-tune my legal perspective, in order to ask the right questions and win cases.
This week, I was also able to create an original work proposal, which encompassed using previous knowledge of the laws and policies which have been detrimental to Venezuela in the past, and knowledge of beneficial legal precedents from countries such as the United States, to tailor a new Venezuelan Constitution, which will stand to eradicate the present issues they are facing, and ultimately preserve the human rights of the nation itself.
Overall, I feel that I have grown tremendously this week, specifically regarding my application of international human rights knowledge to informational interviews, and original work.
